Changes
to Casey Life Skills: Effective May
18, 2009
We’ve added some questions to all four levels of the Casey Life Skills Assessments that will help
assess young people’s knowledge of technology. Many youth are using computers for school work and
to stay connected to friends and family. Cell phones have become a popular tool to communicate.
Electronic devices are a part of the youth culture and here to stay.
We believe the new items will help spark conversation about young people’s knowledge of computer use and
staying safe in cyberspace.
Important Note: These new additions will not affect the user’s ability to pull data reports.
Past score reports and the score reports that include the technology questions are compatible.
Useful Technology Websites
We’ve also added some new websites to our Resources section. If you want to give young people the knowledge they need
to keep safe while using electronic devices, these sites are a great place to visit. Here’s a sample of what you
will find:
Web Wise Kids
is about empowering today's youth to make wise choices online.
Through state-of–the-art Internet Safety computer games (based on real-life scenarios)
as well as Internet Safety tips for kids, teens and parents, Web Wise Kids creates a safer,
friendlier internet experience.
Stop Cyber Bullying
is all about prevention. This site uses humor and good sense to
teach kids about what cyber bullying is and how to recognize it.
It shows youth how they can become inadvertent cyber bullies themselves,
how to be accountable for their actions and not to stand by and allow bullying
(in any form) to be acceptable.
On Guard Online
is a site full of practical tips from the federal government and the technology
industry to help youth and caregivers be on guard against Internet fraud, secure their computer
, and protect their personal information.
