(Learning Goal 1) Is able to provide an environment that ensures the well being of the child.

(Learning Goal 2) Is able to provide for the safety of the child(ren) in the home.

(Learning Goal 3) Is able to keep child safe in the car.

(Learning Goal 4) Knows how to provide a low or no violence environment.

(Learning Goal 5) Knows how to provide an environment which encourages child growth and development.

(Learning Goal 6) Knows how to provide an environment that supports child education.

(Learning Goal 7) Knows how to take care of the environment to ensure the safety and longevity of future generations.

















(Learning Goal 1) Is able to provide an environment that ensures the well being of the child.

     Expectations:
  1. Describe why it is important to create safe and stimulating environments.
  2. Provide routine and explain why it is important.
  3. Provide opportunity for child to get at least 8 hours of sleep a night and explain why it is necessary.
  4. Demonstrate cleaning your living space.
  5. Demonstrate washing child’s clothing.
  6. Demonstrate dressing child comfortably for cold or hot weather.
  7. Provide choices to teach decision making.
  8. Demonstrate three ways to build trust.

(Learning Goal 2) Is able to provide for the safety of the child(ren) in the home.

     Expectations:
  1. Demonstrate baby proofing a home (e.g., removing unsafe and dangerous items from places child can go or reach).
  2. Demonstrate how to keep child safe in the crib.
  3. Create and describe fire safety plan for your home.
  4. Explain what to do if a baby swallows a poisonous substance.
  5. eProvide safe toys for toddlers.
  6. Describe the pros and cons of walkers and playpens.
  7. Describe the best/safest way for toddlers to go down stairs.
  8. Supervise child in and around water.
  9. Describe how to perform CPR on a child.
  10. Describe why to only leave child with known and trusted people.
  11. Avoid smoking cigarettes when in the same room as a child.
  12. Avoid using illegal drugs around child.
  13. Describe how to get help if you or your child is in danger.
  14. Describe how to find shelter or safety in an emergency.

     Expectations:
  1. Tell why not to expose child to any kind of violent behaviors.
  2. Describe the impact on children of witnessing domestic violence.
  3. Keep home free from violence.
  4. Explain why it is not okay to hit a child.
  5. Tell why children should not watch too much TV, especially violence.
  6. Describe the impact on children of watching violence (e.g., on movies or on TV).
  7. Describe how to respond when a child is exposed to violence outside the home.

(Learning Goal 5) Knows how to provide an environment which encourages child growth and development.

     Expectations:
  1. Describe ways parents are role models for their child.
  2. Describe how your personal problem solving skills and social interactions with others influence your child.
  3. Describe why routines and traditions are important.
  4. Tell at least two traditions you will celebrate with your child (e.g., a special birthday dinner, reading each day as a family).
  5. Tell why consistency and appropriate limit setting are important for a child.
  6. Describe how to teach decision-making.
  7. Describe why it is important to teach your child positive values.
  8. Name at least three values you will teach your child, such as non-violence, and kindness.
  9. Describe how to teach your child how to deal with his/her emotions, including frustration and anger.
  10. Limit TV and computer viewing.

     Expectations:

  2. Create and describe a simple plan to address child’s educational needs (e.g., pre-school and kindergarten).
  3. Describe how child is doing in school or day care.
  4. Help child with homework and projects (when applicable).
  5. Get child to school or day care on time.

     Expectations:
  1. Describe our inter-dependence on our larger environment.
  2. Describe how environmental issues impact you and your child directly (e.g., water quality).
  3. Describe why recycling is important.
  4. Name four ways to keep the environment clean.
  5. Demonstrate teaching your child to be environmentally conscious in at least three ways (e.g., recycle, turning out lights, not littering).
  6. Describe why it is important to conserve energy.
  7. Demonstrate two ways to conserve energy (e.g., using cold not hot water to wash clothes, turning out lights).
